Academics

The Keweenaw is home to two universities and numerous highly rated public school systems. Michigan Technological University in Houghton is known for its engineering and research programs, and Finlandia University in Hancock for its art and design programs. Both universities maintain strong community connections and bring a wealth of educational and cultural resources to the area. Gogebic Community College offers continuing education programs in Hancock and Chassell and online, in addition to its main campus in Iron River. At the primary and secondary level, local school districts lead their divisions in academics, sports, and arts.
